Year 1 Continuous Provision

Year 1 Continuous Provision

Our KS1 Leader, Miss K Collins, has put in place Continuous Provision in Year 1 to adapt the current pedagogy of Year 1 teaching and to support all areas of the curriculum through a purposeful play based approach (continuous provision).

What is Continuous Provision?

Carefully chosen and organised quality resources placed in areas which are always available for children to access independently across every area of learning. Children are ‘learning through play’. Research from Upstart Scotland states that many countries have found evidence that “children under the age of seven benefit from an educational approach that supports their all-round physical, emotional, social and cognitive development, rather than pushing them towards early academic achievement.”

Please see the below pdf for more information:

Continuous provision is not an add on to the curriculum, it is the curriculum. Play has an essential role in supporting healthy cognitive and physical development.

The learning environment will be similar to that of our EYFS classrooms. Children will be applying their learning in a way that suits their learning style and stage of development and will have the opportunity to continually practice and apply these skills. All learning opportunities will be purposefully planned for and will cover the EYFS framework as well as the National Curriculum objectives.

Children will be given opportunities to ‘revisit and embed knowledge and skills’ whilst strengthening effective learning behaviours they have established in Foundation Stage.

“Happy children make successful learners.”
